A large gas field capable of meeting Israel's needs for the next 20 years has been discovered in the Mediterranean 20 kilometres (12 miles) offshore, public radio said, quoting the Isramco company.
Capable of providing up to 30 million cubic metres (1,050 million cubic feet) per day, the field off the town of Ashkelon, south of Tel Aviv, contains gas worth more than one billion dollars, the radio said.
The gas field is the third to be discovered off Israel this year, following one in March and another in April. – (AFP)
