Europe’s NEC Computers International will strive to be one of the top five players in the Middle East’s burgeoning server market by 2004. The announcement was made at Gitex 2002, where NEC launched into the Middle East a fault tolerant server specifically designed for SMEs as well as remote branches for large corporations.

According to NEC, the number of server units in Saudi Arabia will almost double in the next two years to over 34,000, a five-fold increase since 2000. The new server’s simplified modular design allows replacement of major subsystems without service interruption. This, combined with industry standard Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server, translates into easy and low-cost maintenance.

NEC supplies the consumer market with the Packard Bell brand, Europe’s home PC leader and the professional market with the NEC brand. NEC supplies personal computers, servers and Internet solutions to individuals, corporations, government and other public sector agencies in Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia. For the past six years, NEC’s annual unit sales have recorded an average increase of 20 percent. — (menareport.com)
