The government of Morocco is offering a tender for the construction and operation of a cereal silo at Casablanca port. The Ministry of Equipment has set November 28 as the deadline for receiving bids, reported the Ministry of Equipment.
The new silo will double the port’s storage capacity, which now has enough space to stock 70,000 tons of grain. According to a ministry official, the new storage tower will have a minimum reserve capacity of 75,000 tons.
Morocco imported 4.6 million tons of cereals between June 2001 and May 2002. The country imports wheat to bridge the local supply gap, caused by prevailing drought conditions facing the country for more than three years.
The country’s top cereal suppliers are the United States with a 17 percent market share and France with a 15 percent share. Canada, Germany and the Ukraine all hold a 13 percent share of the imported cereal market. — (menareport.com)
