The April cost-of-living index in Morocco has risen 1.3% compared to March 2008, the High Commission for Planning monthly bulletin "Repères statistiques" has indicated. This increase results essentially from a 2.5% hike in foodstuffs prices, HCP said, noting that the index of non-foodstuffs also showed a slight rise of 0.2% in comparison to March.

According to MAP, the index of the other groups of products posted relatively weak variations except for the "other goods and services" and "household equipment" categories, which rose 0.3% and 0.6%, respectively.

The April cost-of-living index increased 3.7% compared to the same month last year, while it went up 2.8% in the first four months of 2008 compared to the same period in 2007. According to the report, Rabat posted the highest increase in terms of cities, with 2% in April and 4.9% in the first four months of 2008.
