Morocco’s gross domestic product (GDP) is forecasted at 4.6 percent in 2002, down from 6.5 percent in 2001, reported the Centre Marocain de Conjoncture (CMC). The predicted growth is attributed to an eight percent value-added increase in agriculture and a 4.1 percent increase in agricultural activity.
The nation’s household consumption increased by 5.2 percent in 2002 and investments increased by 11.5 percent. In addition, exports increased by 6.5 percent and imports increased by six percent during the same period.
With an estimated GDP of $34 billion, Morocco is Africa’s fifth largest economic power, accounting for 6.2 percent of the continent’s total GDP, reported the African Development Bank. South Africa, Egypt, Algeria and Nigeria are the continents top four strongest economies. — (menareport.com)
