Moroccan Prime Minister Abdul-Rahman Al-Yousefi demanded that public spending be cut by ten percent at a recent debate about the country’s 2002 public budget proposal, to be presented to the parliament this fall.
Prime Minister Al-Yousefi also demanded that his government cease to offer new employment opportunities in public sector enterprises, according to London based Al-Hayat daily. Public salaries spending amounted to 13 percent of the Moroccan GDP, the highest rate in northern Africa.
These two requests come in line with Morocco’s current economic development plan, approved by the World Bank. ― (MENA Report)
