Morocco imported 4.6 million tons of cereals between June 2001 and May 2002, a 16 percent decrease compared with the corresponding period from the previous year, stated the country’s Inter-Professional Cereals Office (ONCL).
The drop in imports pertained mainly to soft wheat, hard wheat and barley. The ONCL reported that the North African state’s cereal reserves amount to 970,000 tons, an increase of 21 percent compared with figures from 2001.
Morocco’s top cereal suppliers are the United States with a 17 percent market share and France with a 15 percent share. Canada, Germany and the Ukraine all hold a 13 percent share of the imported cereal market. — (menareport.com)
