Official statistics show that 1,095 food-manufacturing facilities were operating in the Arabian Gulf states in the year 2000, compared with 647 factories in 1988. The total capital value invested in these plants grew from $2.5 billion to $6.5 billion during the same period, reported Al-Hayat.
In cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council Chambers Association, the Emirates Chambers Association and the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce will organize the second Assembly of the Gulf Food Manufacturing Companies in the Emirate of Sharjah during the period of January 19-20.
Participants in the meeting will review the ongoing efforts to bridge the food gap in the Arabian Gulf states. They will also discuss the difficulties and problems operating food companies encounter in these states. — (menareport.com)
