Jordan’s MobileCom has signed a $39 million agreement with Ericsson to upgrade its GSM network. The move will enable the network to support services that MobileCom will be providing to its customers in the near future while providing uninterrupted network coverage to around one million customers.
Under the agreement Ericsson will be upgrading the core network, the radio base stations as well as the microwave transmission. This will then enable MobileCom customers to benefit from additional advanced services that the operator will be launching soon in the Jordanian market.
MobileCom's Ericsson network was built up in less than eight months and provides coverage to around 99.5 percent of Jordan's populated areas. By the end of the upgrading the network will be able to support new cutting edge services that MobileCom will be providing to suit the communication needs of its customers.
MobileCom is the Jordanian public mobile telephone network operator, and is the operator of the mobile communications license granted to Jordan Telecom. MobileCom is a member of the Jordan Telecom Group that also includes e-Dimensions and Global One.
Mobilecom launched its full public service in Jordan in 2000. The company combines local Jordanian capability with the technological advantages, network management and operation experience of France Telecom. — (menareport.com)
