During a meeting with the media on Tuesday, MobileCom CEO Mr. Mickael Ghossein announced that the mobile operator with the support of the Ministry of Education will launch a grand campaign to celebrate its 500,000th customer milestone. The campaign aims at involving the community in MobileCom's celebrations in an inventive and a unique approach that entails releasing 100,000 balloons in various schools in Amman, Irbid and Aqaba.
Ghossein explained that each balloon released will carry five wishes chosen by students from schools across Jordan. Students will choose their wishes from a wide variety of valuable prizes of both academic and entertaining nature.
A final draw to be held in June will reward the winners with many valuable prizes, fulfilling many of the students’ dreams and wishes.
The CEO pointed out that choosing schools came as part of MobileCom’s aspirations to involve the Kingdom’s youth in celebrating its momentous achievement, as they represent Jordan’s bright future. The campaign will also include various charitable organizations and orphanages.
During discussions with the media, Ghossein projected the financial results of 2004, which registered revenue at JOD 99.7million; a 32% increase in comparison with the results of 2003. This rise in revenue came as a result of a 6% increase in the ARPU of each customer, which stood at JOD21.1 per subscriber for 2004 in comparison with 2003 where APRU stood at JOD19.9. In addition, MobileCom’s customer base increased to 455,000 customers by the end of last year in comparison with 356,000 customers in 2003.
MobileCom began this year with a series of significant achievements, most important of which was the launch of innovative services such as its Friends and Family offer (Talk Unlimited), enabling subscribers to call any three MobileCom customers at any time for a fixed monthly subscription fee of JOD 8. MobileCom went on to launch the balance transfer service and designed an exclusive offer for Karak Governorate, in addition to inaugurating a branch in Aswaq Assalam.
Ghossein reaffirmed that as part of MobileCom’s strategy to embrace innovation and propel continuous advancement, the company will introduce new services this year including its model of push-to-talk service “Talk Now”, which enables instant communication between subscribers. By doing so, MobileCom will be the first GSM operator to provide such a service in the Middle East.
On a different note, MobileCom renewed its partnership agreement with the Jordanian Basketball Federation to become the official sponsor of many of the federation’s activities such as the Madares League and the University League. Also, MobileCom is currently finalizing its sponsorship agreement with Jordan Youth Club’s football team.
Ghossein concluded by expressing the company’s gratitude towards the government for providing a healthy environment that stimulates investment and competition. Ghossein also thanked MobileCom’s strategic partners, France Telecom and Jordan Telecom, for their continuous support as well as MobileCom staff and all accredited dealers for their unremitting efforts.
