The UAE received $18 billion in foreign direct investment last year, double that of 2004, the country's Minister of Economy told the Global Tea Forum. Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi said the FDI movement was encouraged by the liberal policies of its 23 free zones, reported the Gulf News.

She added on Monday that the UAE will remain attractive to foreign investors since it allows 100 per cent foreign ownership in the free trade areas.
