ALBAWABA – During its Build 2024 event at the company’s campus in Redmond, Washington, Microsoft has announced its latest push into Artificial Intelligence with Copilot+ PCs, what it claims to be the “fastest” and most powerful AI computers “ever.”
The new AI PC line-up comes as a mixture of software and hardware, with major laptop manufacturers providing new Copilot Plus PCs, including Dell, Lenovo, Samsung, HP, Acer and Asus, with Microsoft bringing its latest Surface models on the frontier.
One of its most notable capabilities is "Recall," which aims to use artificial intelligence (AI) to build a searchable "photographic memory" that includes everything the user has done and viewed on their computer.
The Microsoft executive in charge of Windows, Yusuf Mehdi, claimed that the new laptops would have all-day battery life and be "58 percent faster" than a MacBook Air equipped with an M3 CPU, bringing the ability to process 40+ trillion operations per second with an ARM processor from Qualcomm.
Microsoft officials are promoting these laptops as the beginning of an entirely novel era for Windows laptops, adding that Microsoft Copilot would "soon" include GPT-4o, the newest technology from ChatGPT developer OpenAI.
As the company experiences a stock price close to an all-time-high, Microsoft anticipates selling 50 million computers through its Copilot Plus PC branding over the course of the next year, the new PCs will be on sale on June 18 and have a starting price of $1,000 with the ability to process AI tasks on device instead of cloud servers, something Apple is reportedly planning to do with the upcoming iPhone 16.
