MEXCOM 2000, Jodan's largest telecommunication exhibition, kicked off on Tuesday bringing together local and international high-tech companies to showcase the latest technologies of the telecommunications world.
This year's exhibition provides a one-stop shop of IT breakthroughs ranging from GSM services and handsets, voice and data services, to remote area communications equipment and broadband satellite.
"Year on year, the exhibit is becoming bigger and better," said prince Faisal who inaugurated the event being held at Zara Expo Amman.
He commended the atmosphere of competition in the industry, and said that Jordan Telecom and MobileCom, which are sponsoring MEXCOM 2000, are laying the infrastructure in order to improve e-commerce and the IT sector.
The annual fair, held for the fourth year, marked the participation of local companies from Japan, Canada, Sweden, China, Cyprus, India, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.
The participants include Ericsson, Siemens, INDEX, Middle East Communications, ASCOTEL as well as ARABSAT and Arab Radio and Television (ART).
Also participating in the event is the Palestine Telecommunications Co. (PALTEL), which views the exhibit as an opportunity to get acquainted with the advancements in the IT world.
"The exhibit has a very good reputation. It is a mutual benefit for all, and a chance to exchange know-how," said Raed Awwad, a representative of PALTEL, about the Palestinian partaking.
The theme of the event is 'An office without walls in a world without borders', which organizers say “reflects the tremendous advancements in various technologies.”
MobileCom, the second Jordanian firm to be licensed to provide mobile services, stated that MEXCOM 2000 is a chance to get familiar with its customers.
"Through the fair, we aim to explain to the public what we are all about, and the services we will be providing when we launch on September 15," said Jean-Luc Vuillemin, CEO of MobileCom. — ( Jordan Times )
