Marking this great event, the gold, silver, and bronze medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics are made of metal “iron” pieces from the original iron frame of the Eiffel Tower. The medals are formed into a hexagon shape, inspired by the map of France, while the other side of the medals shows an illustration of the Eiffel Tower.

Eiffel Tower was built in 1899, many pieces of the tower were taken during renovations and restructurings and were preserved by the operator of the tower: Société d'Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel, as reported by Olympics.com.

Chaumet, a luxury French jewelry and watches brand, formed the iron pieces into a hexagon shape and placed them into the center of each medal. The shape resembles the France six-sided map, as Clémentine Massonnat, Chaumet's creative director, said: "We've decided to add this hexagon in the way we would a gemstone — in the center and placed as the most precious element of the medal."

Each medal’s design is unique and depicts the great Eiffel Tower, the brackets that hold the iron in the middle of each medal were designed like the rivets of the tower and the other side of the medal shows an illustration of the Eiffel Tower itself, the Acropolis of Athens, and the Greek goddess: Athena Nike.

5,804 medals were made for the Paris 2024 Olympics, each is worth $950 as reported by Forbes. A gold medal weighs 1.17 pounds, a silver medal weighs 1.16 pounds, and a bronze medal weighs 1 pound.
