MashreqBank will launch a new express international money transfer service following the signing of a contract with Western Union, the global money transfer company established in 1851. Western Union is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2001.
The service will be available for both customers and non-customers of MashreqBank, and will be available from the second quarter of 2001 at all the banks 29 branches in the UAE.
Western Union is known and trusted worldwide. With over 95,000 locations across 186 countries, this advanced money transfer payment system will allow customers to transfer money almost instantly to any of the above locations or from any of the above locations to recipients in the UAE.
Steven Pinto, Head of the Retail Banking Group of MashreqBank, said the service will be a boon for the UAE's large expatriate community.
"This high speed but secure way of transferring money will be particularly beneficial in unforeseen circumstances, such as a medical emergency at home or to have access to ready cash while on vacation," Mr. Pinto said. The U.A.E's large expatriate population often relies on Western Union to send remittances to their home countries or to receive cash from overseas.
