The Emirati producer of bottled mineral water, MASAFI, yesterday reported a 10 percent growth in sales in the year 2001. The company statement noted that this performance was achieved against a general industry growth of six percent.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s water market is rated among the top five in the world in terms of consumption, with 214 liters per capita a year. The market is estimated at 250 million liters per annum as a whole.

The Masafi company currently accounts for a 50 percent market share, according to a company press release, with production capacity totaling 70,000 bottles per hour, 30 percent of which is directed towards export to neighboring Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, as well as the African and Japanese markets. — (menareport.com)
