Maroc Telecom plans to introduce a prepaid telephone card in early May, the Moroccan Daily L'Economiste reported last week.
The new phone card, 'Kalimat,' will be compatible for use on regular telphones, as well as on public and mobile phones. Designed as a scratch card, the tariffs imposed on using the card will be charged according to current prices. Special rates will be offered for international calls, with attractive rates also to be offered on the GSM de Maroc Telecom System. The prepaid phone card has enjoyed great success in a number of countries. Kalimat will be available in kiosks and tobacco outlets throughout the Kingdom.
Maroc Telecom hopes that the new card will cause customers to keep using the regular phone system, by providing the user with a more efficient manner to track usage expenses. Senior executives of Maroc Telecom announced that generic fixed phone cards are becoming increasingly unprofitable, since two-thirds of the company's customers do not exceed MD100 in usage fees.
