Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad is due in Yemen on Wednesday, August 8, for a three-day visit to boost economic cooperation, an official source in Sanaa said.
"Mahathir Mohamad will begin an official visit to Yemen from Wednesday during which he will have talks on the possibilities of economic cooperation and possible investment opportunities," the official said.
The Malaysian leader was invited by his Yemeni counterpart, Abdeu Kadir Bajammal, and they will also discuss "recent developments on the international scene," he said.
"Yemen wants to strengthen its ties with Malaysia, particularly in the areas of industry and investment, and wants to carry out joints projects with Kuala Lumpur," he added.
It will be Mahathir's first visit to Yemen since his country opened an embassy here in 1997 following a visit to Malaysia by Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Salih. ― (AFP, Sanaa)
