ALBAWBA - During the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Proton, the nation's leading carmaker, unveiled the e.MAS 7, which marks Malaysia's first locally built electric vehicle (EV), AFP reports.
The achievement would be in line with the government's ambitious target of having 20% of new cars sold be electric by 2030. Proton's e.MAS 7, supported by the massive Chinese automaker Geely, represents a significant advancement in Malaysia's shift to low-carbon transportation.
There are two versions of the e.MAS 7; the Prime and the Premium. The models, which retail for RM109,800 ($24,661) and RM123,800 ($27,806), respectively (without including insurance), aim to entice the rising number of environmentally conscious customers.
A RM4,000 discount for the first 3,000 devices will be offered to early adopters. Additional RM8,000 promotional packages include a V2L converter, a free 7kW home charger, a competitive payment rate of 1.98%, a five-year unlimited internet data plan, a six-year unlimited mileage guarantee, a trade-in refund via Carsome, among other offers.
A 12-in-1 Electric Drive System with 160kW of power is located under the e.MAS 7's hood. It can reach a maximum speed of 175 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.
The Prime model is equipped with a 49.52kWh battery, offering a WLTP-rated range of 345km, while the Premium model boasts a 60.22kWh battery with a 410km range.
In addition to an 11kW three-phase AC onboard charger, all models feature 80kW DC fast charging, which allows for a quick 30% to 80% charge in under 20 minutes.
Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the significance of developing local technology skills and elevating Malaysian vendors thanks to the production of EVs, according to Yahoo News.
He emphasized that the e.MAS 7 will showcase Malaysia's ability to manufacture high-quality electric cars and serve as a catalyst for the country's transition to a low-carbon transportation era.
