A draft agreement, regarding the integration of the Maghreb (North Africa) electrical power network to the European one, has been signed Tuesday in Rome, after the proceedings of the 4th Euro-Mediterranean Energy Conference, the Algerian Energy and Mining Ministry announced on Wednesday. According to APS, the accord was signed by the Energy Ministers of Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia, and the European Transport and Energy Commissioner.
Algeria's Energy and Mining Minister Chakib Khelil, who led the Algerian delegation at this two-day conference (December 1-2), met his Moroccan and Tunisian counterparts. "Both sides examined the current state of bilateral cooperation and the means to strengthen them," the news agency reported.
On the sidelines of Rome's forum, Khelil took part in the meeting between the Energy Ministers of Italy, Spain and France, the European Commission's vice-chairwoman and Energy Commissioner, Loyola de Palacio. The meeting was devoted to the energy connections between Algeria and Europe.
The Euro-Mediterranean Energy Conference, held in the Italian capital, was co-chaired by Italian Minister for Productive Activities, Antonio Marzano, and Chakib Khelil.
