Corruption is a disease that requires persistent treatment in order to be eradicated from society, but the government will undertake all necessary measures to do just that, Libyan Prime Minister Dr Ali Zidan said.
In an interview with the government owned TV channel, Libya Al-Wataniya, Dr Zidan said that a plan has already been implemented that involves the Audit Bureau that will review all actions of the state.
He said he has authorised the Audit Bureau to be provided with all the qualified personnel and resources needed to carry out its functions.
Among the measures to combat corruption, Dr Zidan said his government will establish a central bidding committee that would deal with awarding contracts in a transparent manner and in a way that ends the corrupt schemes that characterised 42 years of the dead dictator’s rule.
It is only through these and similar measures that national interests can be served.
He also said that Libyan secret service will be playing a role in combating corruption and hunt down all those who may have or will commit crimes in this regard.
Zidan said all those who may commit corrupt acts will face trial.
Recruitment of employees to government agencies will also apply measures that prevent corrupt elements from being hired.
He also called on the general public to protect public property and funds as well as report those who violate the law.
