The Libyan government is no longer interested in purchasing Italian Serie A football club Lazio. Last week, a spokesman for Al-Saadi Kadhafi, son of Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi annouced that authorities were considering submitting a bid to buy the establishment.
Al-Saadi Kadhafi is greatly involved in Italian football and became a member of the board of champions of top football club Juventus after the Libyan Arab Foreign Investment Company (LAFICO) bought a 7.5 percent share in the organization earlier this year.
Al-Saadi recently signed a $600,000 cooperation agreement with Lazio, allowing the Tripoli Al-Ittihad club to use Lazio’s training grounds for 10 days out of the year and for several other cooperation schemes. Al-Saasdi’s father expressed interest this year in taking over the financially troubled Greek first division team of PAOK Salonika.
It is well known that football is a very popular sport in Libya. Kadhafi has tried to hire such world stars as former Argentinean captain, Diego Maradona, who was brought in as an adviser and former England manager, Terry Venables, who was offered over one million pounds ($1.5 million) for his services. — (menareport.com)
