Lebanon was ranked as the sixth largest debt issuer among emerging markets in the 2002, according to a Merrill Lynch report. The survey indicates that Lebanon sold $2.84 billion worth of Eurobonds, of which 91.5 percent were sovereign issues.
Emerging markets debt issuance totaled $46.5 billion last year, 82.8 percent of which were in sovereign or sovereign-supported paper. Lebanon accounted for 44.6 percent of aggregate issuance in the Middle East and Africa region. — (menareport.com)
