Minister of Power and Hydraulic Resources Mohamed Abdel Hamid Beydoun declared this week that the joint Lebanese-Syrian Electricity Committee agreed on rescheduling an Electricite du Liban (EDL) loan amounting to $80m owed to the Public Syrian Authority for Electricity Generation for an additional seven months. Beydoun added that Lebanon would be joining the network linking it to Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, and Turkey in the second half of 2002 in an attempt to interchange electricity production between the six
countries. The Lebanese-Syrian link would be executed before the end of this year, to be financed through an Arab Fund loan of $25m. — ( Banque du Liban et d'Outre-Mer Sal )
