In cooperation with the related authorities, the UAE’s health ministry recently prepared a new federal anti-smoking law proposal. The law and legislation review committee will meet soon to assess this law proposal, reported Al-Khaleej newspaper. Following this, the committee will pass the law proposal to the related higher authorities for further evaluation.
The new law bans the sale of cigarette and tobacco products to people under the age of 18. The law also bars any expansion in the currently existing cigarette and tobacco industries.
Furthermore, it forbids cigarette and tobacco publicity in any form of media unless it is done in accordance with the authorities’ conditions. The law also bans cigarette and tobacco advertisement by any other means that may encourage smoking.
The law forbids smoking in universities, hospitals, community and sports clubs, factories and other public areas. ¯ (Albawaba-MEBG)
