Kuwaiti and Iranian officials are scheduled to meet in the first half of October to discuss the possibility of Iranian gas supplies to the emirate, a Kuwaiti minister told International Oil Daily.
"We hope the negotiations with the Iranians will move swiftly and that Iranian gas will start flowing by the end of 2006," Kuwait's acting oil minister, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahd Al-Sabah, told the London-based publication. "Volume would depend on terms still to be negotiated, as well as Kuwait's needs after Dorra (gas field) has been assessed and confirmed," he conveyed.
Back in May, Kuwait said it would press forward its cooperation with Saudi Arabia in developing the offshore Dorra field, part of which also lies within Iranian territorial waters. Saudi and Kuwaiti teams are currently conducting a survey of Dorra with a view to starting exploratory drilling in the early part of 2003.
Al-Sabah also noted that Kuwait was interested in buying from the Saudis their share of gas in Dorra. The Kuwaitis are reportedly awaiting the field to come on stream before commencing negotiations with Riyadh. — (menareport.com)
