Iranian President Mohammed Khatami called Monday for India and Pakistan to find a peaceful way to resolve their differences.
"We hope the two countries manage to solve their problems by peaceful means," Khatami said after a meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh, Iranian state radio reported.
Khatami also said close cooperation between Tehran and New Delhi would contribute to the "establishment of security and stability" on the Indian subcontinent.
Singh praised Tehran's policy of detente, and the long standing relations between the two sides.
He said he hoped for greater cooperation with Tehran to resolve the conflict in Afghanistan.
Singh, who has been in Iran since Friday, Monday opened the 11th meeting of the Indo-Iranian Economic Commission. Speaking alongside Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi, Singh praised the success of his meetings in Tehran.
Iran has had largely warm relations with India, despite Tehran's support for Muslim separatists in Kashmir. The two countries also have plans for a gasline that would cross Pakistani territory -- TEHRAN (AFP)
