ALBAWABA – Morocco announced the success achieved by Somaca, a Moroccan car manufacturer founded in 1959 by Fiat company Simca and currently owned by the French company Renault. Somaca manufactured a new car named Kardian and the country is preparing to export it to nearly 15 countries around the world.

The country stated that Somaca is set to produce approximately 100,000 cars this year, further boosting Morocco's production capacity in the automotive industry.

Ryad Mezoour, the Minister of Industry and Trade, stated: “the success of the Renault Group's integrated industrial system in Morocco is a clear translation of King Mohammed VI's vision that has created the boom in the industrial sector over the past 25 years as Morocco was able to consolidate its position as a strategic hub for global industrial supply and export.”

It is worth noting that the new Renault Kardian will be manufactured on a large scale in Morocco. The car is a four-wheel-drive vehicle designed for urban mobility in the B segment and features a convertible interior.

Additionally, the Somaca factory plans to increase production to nearly 500,000 vehicles by 2025 which strengthens Morocco’s position as a strategic hub for industrial supply and global exports.

Mohammed Bachiri, CEO of the Renault Morocco Group commented: “this is an opportunity to pay tribute once again to all our SOMACA employees whose commitment no longer needs to be demonstrated and that the industrialization of Kardian in SOMACA marks a key step in the international brand strategy Renault International Game Plan 2027, reinforcing Morocco's position as an important industrial platform for the Renault Group.”
