French Telecom Giant Alcatel announced that Jordan Telecom will connect 65 geographically dispersed educational sites throughout the country with a network based upon the Alcatel 7300 Advanced Services Access Manager (ASAM) and Alcatel 7470 Multiservice Platform (MSP).

This contract is part of a major undertaking by Jordan Telecom to ultimately provide Internet connectivity to over 3,000 public schools in the country. Connecting schools is the first step in a massive government initiative to provide broadband Internet connectivity throughout Jordan and is considered a cornerstone of the monarchy's efforts to modernize the country.

To date, Alcatel has secured 100 percent of the ADSL market in Jordan, which is growing rapidly. The first ADSL contract was awarded to Alcatel in July 2000. Since then, Alcatel has expanded the network several times. — (menareport.com)
