Representatives from the international community were briefed on Sunday in Amman, Jordan, on the Kingdom’s new investment opportunities in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector, as the Kingdom prepares to host its premier ICT event, the Jordan ICT Forum. The forum, is organized by the Information Technology Association - Jordan (int@j) and the Ministry of ICT and will be from September 30-1 October.
The two-day event will highlight the investment opportunities that have been created in the ICT sector through the private and public sector-driven REACH Initiative. This initiative provides the foundation for the national ICT development strategy--a strategy aimed at bringing new investment opportunities into the country as the Kingdom moves towards a technology-driven economy.
The Jordan ICT Forum will attract around 1,000 participants from all over the world, including leading international, regional and local ICT business people, representatives of Jordan's Government, as well as members of the media.
The Jordan ICT Forum serves as a platform to showcase Jordan's efforts and achievements in building an industry to develop export-oriented ICT products and services. The forum provides a channel through which Jordan's strategic ICT development initiative, REACH, is presented to stakeholders and potential partners.
The REACH Initiative, launched in 1999 is a dynamic national strategy for Jordan to develop its ICT services sector. It outlines a decisive national plan, assessed and adjusted yearly, specifying actions now being implemented by the private sector, the government and other stakeholders in order for Jordan to continue to build a knowledge-based economy. Jordan is currently in its third iteration of REACH. — (menareport.com)
