Jordan's Executive Privatization Commission signs new deal with European Commission

Jordan's Executive Privatization Commission (EPC) and the European Commission in Amman officially signed on Sunday a 4.5 million euro agreement, within the framework of a four-year Support to Regulatory Reform and Privatization Program (SRRP).  

 

Through the provision of required technical assistance, the agreement aims at developing effective and autonomous regulation of infrastructure in order to promote private participation various economic sectors, the EPC said.  

 

Head of the EPC Adel Qudah, who signed the agreement on behalf of the Jordanian side, expressed appreciation for the EU for financing the agreement, affirming that such assistance will contribute to sustaining the position of Jordan's privatization program as one of the most successful in the region. "Enhancing the role of the private sector, maintaining transparency, efficiency and credibility, have always been our goals," he added.  

 

The program, which was initiated in 2002 at a total cost of 20 million euro, also aims at developing the role of regulatory commissions active in the fields of telecommunications, energy and civil aviation.
