Jordan's national carrier Royal Jordanian has imposed a five-dollar surcharge on tickets as of October 1, the director of the airline Samer Majali told the official Petra news agency Wednesday, October 3.

The increase is aimed at covering higher insurance premiums following the September 11 airborne attack on New York's World Trade Center and the Pentagon near Washington. Several airlines across the world have taken similar measures in light of the worldwide aviation crisis.
