Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Sunday said the $184 million US grant during 2012 will help support the Treasury.

Ensour said that the amount that was received by the Central Bank of Jordan late Thursday is part of the ordinary, annual aid from the US to Jordan, which amounts to $360 million (around JD255 million), the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The premier stressed the importance of these grants in supporting the budget, bolstering development programmes and bettering people’s quality of life.

He added that these grants reflect the depth of the relations between Jordan and the US and the strategic partnership evident in these relations.

The premier said that on September 20, Jordan and the US signed an agreement which granted Jordan 50,000 tonnes of wheat, valued at $17 million.

He added that on September 14, Jordan signed an agreement for additional $100 million in a cash grant with the US to support the 2012 budget.

Ensour said that the total amount of American grants during 2012 reached around $474 million (around JD336 million), including $284 million in direct cash.
