Jordan's foreign trade increased by 35.7 per cent during the first six months of 2004 compared to the same
period of 2003.
According to figures released by the General Statistics Department (GSD), the increase was attributed to 33.1% rise in exports and re-exported material and a 37.1% rise in imports. This increase has resulted in 41.4 rise in trade balance deficit, the GSD report said, according to Petra news agency.
The report showed that national exports rose 47.9 per cent to reach JD1079.7 million compared to JD730 million during the first half of 2003. Trade balance deficit stood at JD1279.9 million compared to JD904.9 million, the report said.
The U.S. ranked first among world importers from Jordan, making 27,4 per cent of total exports, followed by Iraq 17.9 per cent, and India 6.3 , the report added. (menareport.com)
