Jordan's Prime Minister Nader Dahabi has recently patronized a ceremony to lay the foundation stone of the first plant for assembling and manufacturing automobiles in Jordan. The factory is established by Iyas Company for Manufacturing Automobiles in cooperation with Jordan Investment Board (JIB) and the strategic partner ZXAUTO Chinese Company.

The Jordanian Prime Minister listened to a briefing on the project and looked into one of the car models to be produced labeled with "Made in Jordan". The factory to be established at Um Arrassas area, about 30 km south of Amman will provide nearly 300 jobs for engineers and technicians in its first stage, according to Iyas Company Board Chairman Mazen Iyas. According to Petra news agency, he said Jordanian workers would be trained in China at a later stage to replace foreign workers in the factory. The factory is expected to produce 5,000 vehicles in its first year and it is planned to produce a total of 12,000 cars a year to be able to compete in the local and regional market, Iyas said.

"Launching this factory is historical event and a pioneering project in Jordan," said Chief of the ZXAUTO company Robert Yu. The factory will produce vehicles branded with "Iyas Motors" which include small and medium trucks, Grand Tiger pickup and Landmark sports car.
