The Jordanian parliament on Sunday passed the budget's draft law for 2007, with 68 out of the 94 deputies, who attended the session. According to Petra, the parliament rejected a recommendation by the financial and economic committee to reject the draft law. All in all, 21 deputies voted against the draft law.
The parliament agreed to the committee’s decision to decrease 7% of the total capital expenditure. The decrease is expected to hit JD 71 million (nearly US$100 million).
The parliament voted at the draft law and the financial committee’s recommendations by article. It urged the government not to raise the prices of oil derivatives and commit to raise civil and military services employee’s salaries among others.
Responding committee’s call, Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit said that the cabinet is committed not to hike prices of oil derivatives. Bakhit reiterated commitment to increase salaries of working and retired civil and military employees, in a bid to elevate public servants’ incomes.
He said that the cabinet will introduce, within some weeks during the current session, a budget supplement for approval in this reagrd.
