Jordan’s charter airline, Royal Wings (RW), incurred losses of 500,000 Jordanian dinars ($700,000) in 2001, in addition to a passenger decrease of 17 percent, leveling off at 14,500 flyers compared with the previous year, reported Jordan Times.
RW authorities attributed last year’s losses to the drawn out regional conflict in the Palestinian territories and the September 11 attacks against the United States. Revenues from Tel Aviv-bound flights dropped by 40 percent in 2001 compared to 2000.
Four regular weekly flights to Gaza Airport were terminated over a year ago. RW, operates three daily flights to Aqaba, nine weekly flights to Tel Aviv and two weekly flights to Haifa in addition to charter flights.
RW is an affiliate of Royal Jordanian Airlines serving short-haul destinations in the region. Since its establishment in 1996, RW has recorded one million dinars in annual net profits. — (menareport.com)
