Jordanian exports to foreign markets amounted to 591 million Jordanian dinars ($833 million) during the first half of 2001, according to Jordan’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry. This reflects a 15 percent climb compared with the corresponding period last year.
Exports of Jordan’s manufacturing industry, the ministry maintained, reached JD 389.2 million during the first half of 2001, reflecting a 37 percent rise compared with the previous year. Jordan’s mining industry experienced a JD 30 drop in exports, declining to JD 184.9 million during the first half of 2001 compared with JD 154.9 million in the corresponding period of last year.
Jordan further exported 1.882 million tons of phosphates during the first half of 2001, compared with 1.76 million tons in the first half of 2000. Despite this increase in phosphate exports, returns declined due to falling prices of phosphate on the international market in 2001. — (Mena Report)
