Saudi Arabia has chosen Japan's Sumitomo Corp. to build a $2.2-billion desalination plant in the Gulf industrial city of Jubail, the official SPA news agency reported.
Prince Abdullah bin Faisal bin Turki, chief of the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority, was quoted as saying that a company of exclusively Japanese capital had been created to supervise the construction of the plant.
The plant will have a capacity of treating 730,000 cubic meters (25.6 million cubic feet) of water a day. — (AFP, Riyadh)
