The Ambassador of Japan to Egypt Masaki Noke signed the grant agreement with the Arab country’s Minister of International Cooperation Rania al Mashat for the fight against COVID-19 pandemic and for the procurement of medical equipment.
Al Mashat stated that the new financial aid increased the mutual cooperation portfolio to $ 54.5 million (EGP 856.10 million) in value in the fields of health and education combined.
The overall Japan-Egypt portfolio, meanwhile, stands at nearly $2.48 billion (EGP 38.96 billion) in 13 different projects, the minister added.
The two countries penned last July an emergency grant agreement in support of Egypt’s medical sector.
The Egyptian Ministry of Education and Technical Education opened last September two new Japanese schools in New Valley and South Sinai governorates.
Until press time, Egypt registered more than 106,000 COVID-19 infections since the pandemic started.
