Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) has been offered a $100 million development contract from Algeria’s state-owned Sonatrach oil and gas company. The contract commissions KHI with building two liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) gas carriers, reported APS.
To be operational by 2004, the new carriers would increase Sonatrach’s fleet to six ships, raising its transport capacity to 350,000 cubic meters. The deal also stipulates that if the Algerian company decides to purchase a third carrier, KHI will receive the order for $49.7 million.
Established in 1963, Sonatrach was the first oil company in the Mediterranean. The company is active in both upstream and downstream oil and gas industries. It is responsible for exploration and production, transport, refining, processing, marketing and distribution. — (menareport.com)
