The Turkish government, which currently is battling an inflation rate in excess of 60 percent, has turned to a team of Israeli economic experts, several of whom were instrumental in reducing Israel’s hyperinflation in the 1980s to double-digit and then single-digit proportions.

According to the Tel Aviv daily, Yediot Achronot, the team of Israeli economists visiting Turkey includes Jacob Frenkel, the former governor of the Bank of Israel, Professor Haim Ben-Shachar of Tel Aviv University, and Professor Elchanan Helfman of Harvard University.

According to the newspaper, the trip was initiated by foreign minister Shimon Peres and was approved by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. ― (MENA Report)
