ALBAWABA – The Israeli cabinet announced the approval of increasing the 2024 budget on Sunday. The boost, approximately amounting to $923 million (NIS 3.4 billion), is intended to address the growing need to support displaced people amid ongoing conflicts on the northern and southern borders.
Displaced citizens in Israel
It is worth noting that tens of thousands of Israeli citizens in the north have been staying in hotels and government-funded accommodations after the daily rocket attacks by the Lebanese Hezbollah group. This has persisted since the war started between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on October 7, 2023.
As a result, the Israeli cabinet and the Ministry of Finance approved an increase to the 2024 budget by $923 million (NIS 3.4 billion). The ministry said this additional amount will be allocated to support displaced citizens.

On the other hand, the government deducted $143 million (NIS 525 million) and kept it in the treasury, while dedicating another $54 million (NIS 200 million) to fund the Israeli defense forces.
This newest approved increase to the 2024 Israeli budget is not the first since the beginning of the war (October 2023). The Israeli government previously boosted its budget by approximately $7.9 billion (NIS 29 billion) in December 2023, in hopes of covering the ongoing military operations costs, purchasing more war equipment, and improving the country’s internal security.
