Israel’s exports to Arab countries in the first quarter of 2001 jumped nine percent, compared with Q1 last year. According to the Israeli press, exports to Arab nations hit $33.45 million this quarter. Imports from Arab countries surged at an even greater rate of 29 percent to $15 million. Indirect trade totaled two million dollars in the first quarter, according to figures from the Manufacturers Association of Israel.
Exports to Egypt dropped plummeted 57 percent to $970,000. Exports to the North African nation of Tunisia fell 21 percent in the first quarter to $129,000.
Export of plastics products, machinery and machine tools, chemical products and food and agricultural produce, account for most of the trade volume. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
