Israel late Tuesday, September 11, closed its airspace for 24 hours to all incoming flights by foreign airlines, the Israeli Airports Authority said in a statement after a wave of attacks in the United States.
The closure did not affect scheduled departures, the authority said in a statement, adding that security has also been stepped up at Ben Gurion international airport near Tel Aviv.
Two aircraft heading to Tel Aviv, one from Germany, the other from Russia, were diverted to Cyprus, Israeli public television said.
The Israeli Air Force was also put on high alert Tuesday, Israeli public television reported, giving no other details. ― (AFP, Jerusalem)
