The war against Iraq is having a negative affect on web traffic, according to an independent report generated by US-based Omniture. Internet traffic data remained consistent until March 17, the date American President George W. Bush issued the ultimatum to Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
Since that time, in all content and commerce segments other than national news there has been a steady decline in web traffic, which now measures 15 percent below expected levels. Omniture aggregates web traffic information from billions of Internet sessions per month using their market- web analytics service SiteCatalyst.
For this report, SiteCatalyst analyzed visitor data from hundreds of sites averaging over 15 million page view per day. "There are many factors that affect the level of web traffic to a particular site," said Josh James, chief executive officer of Omniture. "What is interesting about this event is that we are seeing a global affect across all types of websites including e-commerce sites and local news/media sites. It is rare to see an event translate across the board."
SiteCatalyst is a remotely hosted web-analytics solution that enables marketing managers to see in real-time all the factors that influence the success of their online businesses. Headquartered in Orem, Utah, Omniture, Inc. is a web analytics technology firm. — (menareport.com)
