The Iraqi trade ministry has issued new draft guidelines for the export of metal. The licensing process will start on Friday, April 30, 2004, after which exporters may apply to the Ministry for a license.

No export of scrap may take place prior to April 30, and no licenses will be issued prior to that date, reported a press release. Under the revised system, there will be no requirement to register as a dealer in scrap metal and no registration fee will be charged. The auction plan has been cancelled, and a license fee for export will be charged instead.

The license fee will be charged on the basis of a payment per metric ton. The amount of the fee is set at 50,000 Iraqi dinars per metric ton ($35). No other fees may be charged for the movement of scrap metal inside Iraq or across its borders. — (menareport.com)
