(AFP, MOSCOW) – Iraqi Finance Minister Hekmat al-Assawi is scheduled to discuss bilateral relations with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on Monday, the ITAR-TASS news agency reported.

Assawi arrived in the capital Minsk on Saturday to develop trade and economic issues between the two countries.

He attended a second sitting of the Belarussian-Iraqi cooperation commission set up in February and visited industrial companies, among them Minsk car and tractor plants, a factory manufacturing Atlant refrigerators and the Belbio farm concern, the report said.

First deputy chief of the Belarussian presidential administration Vladimir Zametalin described bilateral relations as "dynamic".

Last year, Lukashenko told Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in a message that he supported the lifting of the United Nations embargo against Iraq, imposed after its invasion of Kuwait in August 1990.
