Iraq signs deal to import wheat

The Iraqi ministry of Trade has signed contracts for imports of large amounts of wheat, including contracts for imports of 300,000 tons of wheat concluded with two American companies, reported the Iraqi newspaper, <i>Al-Furat</i> on March 28, 2005.


The ministry will announce soon upon inviting the companies to import large amounts of wheat after opening the necessary credit lines, according to an
authorized source in the ministry. In the same context, an authorized source in the General Establishment for Grain Trading revealed that work is continuing for unloading four ships loaded with 218,000 tons of Australian wheat, anchoring at present in Umm Qasr Port.
