The governments of Iraq and Vietnam recently signed an agreement to increase bilateral trade volume and expand cooperation through joint projects, reported the official INA news agency.
"Directives have been given to ministries to grant priority to Vietnamese companies for contracts signed within the framework of the United Nations (UN) oil-for-food deal," said Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan.
Iraq has been under a strict UN embargo since its 1990 invasion of Kuwait. The UN oil-for-food program, which has been in place since 1996 and allows embargo-hit Iraq to sell oil and buy food, medicine and other essentials for its 22 million people. — (menareport.com)
